I am building a 500 sq ft boat dock/activity deck and need to decide which materials to use. Any advice? I heard good things about Azek PVC decking

Thanks

That PVC decking is great, no splinters in feet, lasts a long time, but more expensive than pressure treated lumber. If you're in a salt environment/near the ocean, maybe consider using Stainless Steel nails and screws...cost more, but last forever! Good Luck!:)

I looked into it a couple of years ago and a friend directed me to the "This Old House" forums and because of all the negative comments and problems people had reported we decided to go with good old cedar. I think fading and staining were the most problems reported.

I thought Azek was supposed to not stain or fade. I'll check out this old house. It is in salt water and I will be using ss screws.

Thanks for the replies

Instead of SS screws, look into Dek screws. They're powdercoated and come in either a brown or green hue to match the decking. They are self tapping/cutting and have the heavy coarse thread designed to be used in decking. No rust or staining with them, but you will get it with SS, especially if you put it in real wood. Just food for thought.
