boat does not move more than idle

Just replaced the prop on a mer. stern drive 1976 140 hp, 17' boat. Went to launch the boat today and it would not go, with motor RPM high the boat would barley move, as if it was idleing. The boat startes to move when ingaged and when i give it more gas it does not go faster, less than 5 mph.

You might have a spun prop.<br /><br />OR<br /><br />Is there a grinding noise of any kind?<br /><br />TMD

Sounds like a spun prop hub. <br />Was this an Ebay bargain?<br />If you bought it new, take it back.<br />If used, have it rehubbed, about $40.
