Hey all, just wanted to check with some knowledgeable people. I have a 2001 Crestliner Fish Hawk 1600 that I got as a gift from my grandfather. I want this boat to continue to last so me and my son can have the same memories I had with him. That being said the carpet is absolutely shot and some of the wood started rotting.

im thinking about buying either radiata pine or bcx for the floor and completely replacing it all. Then sealing it with west systems epoxy both front and back and all holes pre drilled. Then either looking at installing some sort of pontoon vinyl like marideck or durabak.

just wanted to know what others thought of this idea, or if it will last.

Thank you all very much for your time!

seal the floor with anything you want except treated wood. it will probably only last 15-20 years anyway.

dont forget, the flotation foam probably is wet. especially if the boat was stored outside

I totally understand your wishes concerning this boat. Lots of us have similar feeling as well.

But once you spot rotting wood from the top, you probably have tons more rotted issues below the floor. I am telling you this to prepare you for more things to fix as you get started. So just realize you are not alone with thinking a simple replace the rotted part that you see and boat on. I think you have more issues yet to be seen. However, you've come to the best place to get assistance and information... JMHO

Surprisingly everything looks pretty good underneath all the wood. Flotation foam still looks fairly good. I will post pictures when I get the entire flooring removed!

Topside of the foam might "look" fairly good, its whats at the bottom against the hull that matters and likely to be drastically different

Ok copy that. Then you can simply buy marine foam to replace this in that case as well?

Yes you can. You would buy 2# foam for flotation. If you chop out some foam as Scott says you will need to seal the cuts with epoxy. It will seal the open cells. Foam is a closed cell product.
Not sure if you can poly.
