I am putting my boat in a slip this year and wanted to know if people that have boats in slips flush their engines after use? I have an outboard so I didn't know if I should tilt the motor and use the ears to flush the motor or what?

the slip has water and electric.

Re: boat in slip

I,m in FL and when I was in CT up north My buddy had a boat in a slip in salt water. The corrosion on the zinc was incredible and the algae even worse. I would recommend flushing the engine at least once evry week or two and not letting it sit in the water when not in use. Imagine what the fuel pump water tube ports etc might look like after a while with no maintanace.

Re: boat in slip

If the motor has a flush port you can reach, with the motor tilted down, it is worth flushing. If you must tilt the motor up and install the muffs, it is impractical to flush it, as the water intakes will be hard to reach from inside the boat.

BTW - Outboards will be fine in saltwater for a decade before you have real salt-induced problems. Make sure you grease the pivots and steering rod often.
