When I requested a quote from a boat insurance company one question asked was me was, "is the engine prop aluminum or stainless steel", has anyone encountered this or do you have any idea what difference this could make? The insurance quoted has a $500 deductible so losing a prop isn't covered, the insurance person had no idea, she was just reading from the script. ;)

They may be trying to weed out or charge more for hot rod motors. But aren't they all hot rods?

roscoe, thanks, good point, they also asked me the speed of the motor, I'm sure they meant speed of the boat, I wanted to say 5500 but figured the quote may be a bit higher, so I answered the speedo only goes to 40, like I could see it from the house, ha, ha. Now this is a company that only sells boat insurance, kinda scary.

True the lower unit theory,<br />what about theft. maybe the company feels they are expensive, attractive, and easy to steal. resulting in a $500-$1000 (x2 for twins) liability.

This is a mystery to me, too. Never heard of it before. WWYC may have the theft angle right, but it seems like the $500 deductible would cover 99.999% of SS props. If you find out, please let us know.

Hi Roscoe, it's Ace American Insurance Company, I started with Geico and this was the affiliated company that wrote the policy, :)
