check your insurance for towing. many reimburse you for towing up to a limit. some have negotiated rates.

I have progressive that covers the boat (and cars) and Boat US to cover towing the boat on the water should the need arise again.

the first time I was towed in (23 miles), if I didnt have towing insurance thru Boat US, the bill would have been $1100 out of pocket. the $156/year insurance is worth it.

BTW, thats Captain Fynn with Tow Boat US...... been towed in 3 times so far by him and 4 times by private folks over the past 30 years.

I had Boat US for years before switching over to Progressive a couple of years. Can't complain about Progressive other than the $500 annual tow limit.

The last time I was towed would have been close to $2,000 to get back to port. Instead I had him tow me to the first public ramp where I hailed a taxi to take me back to my port of departure to get the truck and trailer.

Progressive picked up the $300 tow to the dock. Cost me another $100 in taxi and bridge tolls to get back to my departure point.

Have since went back to unlimited towing with TOWBOAT US

down here, the $500 annual tow limit with progressive would be reached after mile #3. I had 2 tows within 3 weeks of each other. (spun prop hub and plugged HX from running aground and an ignition module) both tows together were about $1500

since its about 20 miles from the boat ramp to the ICW, and about 10 miles in either direction to the bars/hangouts/etc. I will stick with my Boat US and Progressive.

Must have a different scheme than here.

Up here they charge by the hour from the point of their departure to the time of their return.

The bill for my last tow, roughly 1/4 mile, (water in fuel) was over $300.

with the sheer # of boats in the area, there are at least 3 yellow tow boats and 3 red tow boats running around the area.
