I believe that it is covered if you hit something. What isn't covered is damage due to forgetting to put enough oil in. I have heard of a case when a lower unit drain screw fell out and insurance covered that. Check with your insurance agent to see exactly what your policy covers. I would bet it would cover damage from hitting something in the lake.
