Anyone know of good boat launch ramps in the Catawba - Marblehead - Port Clinton areas @ Lake Erie???

Don't have a problem with pay to launch private marinas...in fact I prefer them. Need one with plently of room for crew cab truck and trailer parking.

Planning an outing to PIB soon. :)

bomar76,
A good marina east of St Rt 53 on Catawba Is is the Midway. There's the Midway Marina on 53, then immediately north is the entrance to the ramp. It was $7 last year and was pretty busy on the weekend, so get there early. Plenty of parking.
Happy Boating,
Brian

Bomar,

Probably the best free State ramp in the Pt Clinton/Catawba area is "Catawba Island State Park". It has good parking and is right on the lake (i.e. no putt-putting out of harbors)

Others in the area include:

"Mazurik Access Area" on Marble Head across from Kelly's island.

"Dempsey-Sandusky Bay Access" on Sandusky Bay just west of Johnson's island.

There are also ramps on West Harbor, East Harbor, and the Portage River. Just ask around once you get in the area for directions to these.

You might want to search out the Ohio Department of Watercraft or DNR to get instructions (maps).

Thanks Brian and Erie Guy!
Wife and I went up to Catawba Sunday to scout sites, but ended up off on another tangent and never did check out one ramp. Turned in to a shopping and dining experience. I did check out the ODNR site online, but was a little hesitant to use the free ramps due to the Bozo factor, but hopefully Erie boaters are a little more prepared than the lugnuts we have to put up with on the local inland lakes.
This will be our first trip out on the big pond boat-wise, although we used to go up to PIB and Kellys all the time.
We normally take weekday trips to miss the weekend congestion and such.
Again, thank to both of you! :D
Joe

bomar76,
Had a close call up there when some weather moved in unexpectedly. No doubt in my mind that Erie takes care of the "Bozos" in its own little way! Some call it the "Darwin Awards", hehehe!
Have fun, be careful!
Happy Boating!
Brian
