Boat longevity

Hi All,<br />I have a 2005 Sea Ray 180 sport and have a couple questions. If one were to follow the boat annual maintaince routine and take good care of the boat and store it in the garage. How long would you expect the life of this boat to be? If one were to put say 40-50 hours a year on the Mercruiser/Alpha1 130 3lt engine, when would one need to do an engine rebuilt? Is building an engine necessary in the marine world? If so, at what hour or year? Thanks.

i may be wrong here,but if you do all the maintence and take care of it it should last as long as you do,everboat and vehicle has something go wrong or wear out over time,but if the motor is well maintained id bet youll need new carpet or seats before a rebuild of the motor,like i say i may be wrong here but good maintence is the life to everthing.

Yep, what Ron G said. With proper maintenance, you can add that boat to your will.

remember even if you store it indoors it need to be DRY before you put it away and kept dry during periods of non use. sounds like a nice boat.

If you take as much care of yourself as of your boat, you might outlast the boat.<br /><br />Or else recycle it as a last resting place!

i can tell you 25 years can happen if you stay on top of things<br /><br />they die from letting things fail they usally dont wear out<br /><br /><br />a dry boat in a dry storage area is boat heaven<br /><br />tommays

What about if I am keeping the boat in the water at a marina during the season? approx. may-aug 4-5 months. And I do all the proper maint., winter storage, washing, waxing, etc. What will that do to the life of a boat? <br />FYI Freshwater 100%.

if you care for it along the way...replace bellows as needed, replace any worn engine parts, keep fluids fresh then your boat will last a long time. if you run it into the ground not fixing what needs to be fixed or you neglect it for years, then you can expect costly repairs to get it running again.<br /><br />rebuilding is necessary for engines that weren't taken care of properly or when parts failed and the engine was run anyway, including improper winterizations.<br /><br /><br />wmteich...look into bottom painting. you'll want to protect your hull...ask around the marina and see what works for your neighbors.<br /><br />a boat on the water will need more care, you can expect some things to give into the humidity a little faster. i also used my boat more when i had a lift, cleaned it less.

my boat is a 1995, and some have asked is that a new boat? makes me feel good. take care of her and she will not let you down, remember a boat loves water so if you use it will run good, if it sits it will get bed sores. follow what im saying LOL. I tell my wife we have to go out on the boat today its stating to feel kinda poorly. Anyways good luck to you.
