Here is my question, and let me know if I am just buying a mess. I have a 1970's 165 merc. in a trihull that is shot. The motor is relatively new on the rebuild. I am looking for a new home for the motor, drive and looking for a wellcraft specifically to house this. I am not sure if adding a link is ok in this fourm, but I am wondering if it makes sense to pick up this boat? It is exactly what I am looking for. Seat repairs and the like are the easy part, I normally will strip them down and rebuild, but what are some experienced thoughts? Also, what HP cylinder config, is a MErc 3.0 Is it a big 4 cylinder? Small 6?

Ayuh,....

The 3.0l Merc is the Same motor you have,... With 2 less cylinders......

Other than having to build a longer motorbox,+ moving the front motor mount forward,.....

I'd say Go For It.......

Thanks Bondo...a few more questions..

Would a 165 do a much better job on this boat or is the diff. marginal? I am suprised the boat was made with a 3.0, I thought normally wellcraft boats were well powered. When you say move the engine forward, what am I looking at- new lag bolt positions, redesign? I have seen these boats with 165's and would believe the mounting locations are prob. already there.

Ayuh,....

25hp is a fair amount of increased hp in a 19' boat.....

Nope,... Not the Engine,... The Motor Mount,+ the motor Box, will be Too close to the transom to fit the 6 cylinder in the 4 cylinder's place.....

when you slap two more cylinders on they gota go some where. in your case its on the front of the motor=move motor mount as bondo said
