Got a '85 17ft. Skeeter Bass with a 110 VRO Evinrude. Motor runs fine after "planing out". Top speed is around 45mph. The problem is, the boat will not plane without someone putting some wieght up front. Shouldn't a 110 be able to plane this boat without assistance? Would trimming the motor up help? If so, that may be the problem. Got a couple weak relays (I hope) and the motor isn't trimming very well.

Thanks

Ron

to achieve great hole shot you should trim the engine all the way down and as you accelerate start to trim the engine up that should solve the problem yes that engine should run fine on that boat

Make sure the tilt trim works well, as this is the key to both high and low speed performance.
With the motor trim all the way down the prop is angled up slightly which helps push the stern up (and bow down). Once you are underway and on plane, the motor should be trimed to a verticle (perpendicular to the water surface) position. Running the prop through the water at an angle causes a loss in thrust.

Although the tilt/trim will help it is not the most effectlive method of controling the attitude of the boat. Look at Trim Tabs!
