Hey all I'm newish to boats and this forum, not sure were to ask but here I go.

I'm pretty sure i want a older project jet boat like one pictured below.
my questions are.
1. are flat bottoms as rough as people say?
2. I'm pretty sure I want a jet boat because were I go boating now if you have a i/0 or outboard you have to be carefull (we go through 1 prop a season from finding new shallow spots at the lake.(eufala oklahoma)
3. I have no desire to go fast but I love hole shots and short little races. would a jet or v-drive be better?
4. were can i find these older project 70's Berkeley jet boats?
5. and probably the most important part Im really looking for a boat I can slap some chrome boat headers on and have fun.
6. my intention is to just find a good hull and put in a newer engine and be different i was thinking about marinizing a hemi

I'll jump in here and I did read your post from last year, seems to me you say you don't need to go fast but the boat you are looking at is a scream and fly or at least to me it is. Most boats don't go over 45 MPH, 70 is blasting over the water and with headers you will be that guy on the lake that wakes up everybody on the Sunday morning, lol. Condition and budget is everything. Anything can be rebuilt regardless of the condition its more a matter of is it worth it or are you better off looking else where. Jet drives, V drives, outboards and I/O motors all have their strong points and week points. I don't think any one drive checks all the boxes.

I did not answer your questions the first time so I'll try once more

1. are flat bottoms as rough as people say?
...... in a word, yes

2. I'm pretty sure I want a jet boat because were I go boating now if you have a i/0 or outboard you have to be carefull (we go through 1 prop a season from finding new shallow spots at the lake.(eufala oklahoma)
..... no question here, more of a statement

3. I have no desire to go fast but I love hole shots and short little races. would a jet or v-drive be better?
.....lol, yes you do. You want a ripper. I don’t blame you but you will likely have a hard time finding people to go boating with you. The boat you want is very hard on the water and most don’t want to go fast. My boat is a 55 MPH boat and most passengers want to go slow and enjoy the ride, but I’m 62 and likely have a different set of friends than you, but to answer the question, a v drive is faster then a jet drive

4. were can i find these older project 70's Berkeley jet boats?
....craigslist, news paper ad’s, backyards, barns, driveways, docks, marinas, scrap yards …. you get the idea

5. and probably the most important part Im really looking for a boat I can slap some chrome boat headers on and have fun.
... No question here

6. my intention is to just find a good hull and put in a newer engine and be different i was thinking about marinizing a hemi
... No question here

There, all questions answered. This is what happens when I have to much time on my hands, lol
