first off ive got a 16ft aluminum jon with a 25hp johnson.my boat is also a semi tunnel hull, ive been running this boat all summer not really having any problems other than its kinda slow but the other day i was in a hurry goin back home and was running the boat wide open and every now and again letting off a little bit.the boat raised higher than normal and started cruising faster than before.so apparently that was the first time ive actually had it planed like its suppose to.my question is about the fins people mount to the foot that are suppose to help this problem.is my motor to small to do this?(never seen one on anything smaller than a 40).if it is what else can i do to get on plane? thanks

Re: boat planing question

Check with any dealership on the availability of a hydrofoil (fin, wing, etc) for your model engine.

Also you might check how the engine is mounted...... With the boat on a trailer, back off and sight it from the side. The cavitation plate just above the propeller should be about 3/4" below the bottom of the boat, and on the same angle, parallel with the keel/bottom of the boat.
