Boat pops out carb and looses power 1/2 hour/15 miles moving Coil/Condenser h

HELP. Our 1987 sunbird 3.0 181 4 cylinder mercruiser is popping out of the carbuerator then it misses and looses power ( may or may not make it to the dock. The condenser and coil gets hot. But, It only does it when we run it 1/2 hour or approximately 15 miles. <br />It does not have a power pack. <br /><br /> We currently have it at the shop. They have tried new ignintion. Complete tune up. We have changed the entire fuel system with the exception of the fuel tank. The shop has ran it for two days. No ideas except it may be in or on the motor somewhere. <br /><br />Has anyone had this or a similar problem?? Help... No ideas. Shop is baffled. Any help would be appreciated.<br />Thanks

does it only lose power when it warms up? it could be alot of things but it seems you have tried many of them,I can tell you this year I had a very hard time on my 454 inboard popping through the carb, losing power when i throttle up and i changed plugs, wires, cap rotor,did have a bad ignition sensor located inside my cap but that didnt solve it,rotor and even took the carb off and cleaned it,,put it back on and still the same problem when it would heat up it ran bad,,I finally found the problem when the builder put my engine together they put on the wrong gasket that was in between the carb spacer and intake manifold there was a huge vacum leak that would come and go when things heated up.I found it by spraying dome soapy water around things,,I tried the carb cleaner trick but found that no matter where you spray that stuff the big bore engine would suck it up and the idle would race,,I was suprised that vacum leaks could mimic the same syptoms as an electrical problem..

Leads to the coil may be reversed it would still work but may get hot and break down.

Well, $500 later it is fixed. They are still not quite sure what the problem was. They changed the coil again and the coil wires. But, the good news is that it runs better than ever..... Thanks for the advice.<br /> HAPPY BOATING
