I just bought a new Regal 2500 and need to apply registration nos. I've never done it before, and want numbers that have a nice, professional look. What have you done? Pictures would be great if you have them. Also, interested in whether you did it yourself or got a sign company to do it.

Re: Boat Registration Number Stickers

I had the dealer I bought the boat from place the registration numbers on the boat. You can do it yourself but be sure to follow your state's requirements for proper placement on the boat, size, color and visibility.

For example, in NY where I live and boat, the NY DMV requires the numbers to be block letters, at least 3 inches in height, a color different from the hull that is easy to see, legible from 100 ft away during daylight hours, the only number on the front half of the boat, and placed on both sides of the front half, i.e., port and starboard. You will also get a registration sticker that is to be placed in line with the registration number on both sides of the hull and three inches from the number towards the stern.

And just a thought, you might want to consider having a pro sign person do it if you are going to have them design and put a name on your boat. Should be a snap for them.

Congrats on your new boat and best of luck to ya!

If you lay out a piece of masking tape then you can align the numbers on it to keep them level.

But do check with your state for proper size color and placement. It does matter. If nothing else it can (and will) be used as a reason to stop you.

Buy them on EBAY. They will make them on a sheet with all the numbers lined up for you. You can order any color you want too.

cr2k has it, used to work in a sign shop and that is how we did it.

Lay your letters out like you want them then put 2 peices of masking tape across them, position on the boat where you want them with a peice of tape in the middle.

Apply one side using the tape in the middle as a hinge, then do the other side, nice straight letters.

Re: Boat Registration Number Stickers

i went with hardline stickers...

http://www.hardlineproducts.com/BoatReg.html

my state says block numbers and letters too. so far, i've not had any dnr stop me over them, but i do wonder if they meet the criteria of block. the reg. number is placed and spaced proper...

i also used the same letters/numbers for naming my boat.. had enough left over to make it happen w/o buying another round of stickers..

The rules are the same in all 50 states as it is a federal requirement.
