Boat Rides Hard

I have '69 17' Cobia Runabout. It has what I call a modified vee hull (starts at a vee at the bow and is basically flat at the stern). It rides very hard, pounds in any kind of chop. It tends to ride better with more weight (I guess its pretty light), I have a '89 88hp Evinrude on the back, can't open it up unless the water is flat or it rides too hard. Any suggestions on how I might improve the ride? Or should I save $ for a better hull?

Thanks..........

Re: Boat Rides Hard

Not familar with your Boat, but besides adding weight, make sure your motor is "Trimmed Down" in rough water.

I had a 17' Cobia years ago. Save your $ for a different boat if the pounding bothers you. I do remember putting a pair of rubber trim tabs on it.

A dolfin might help. It will get you on plane
and hold the bow down.you could try moving the gas tank to the front of the boat.
these things will help some but youll have to live with a hard ride.
