Just tooled up to replace the plywood structure that make the back rests for the seats of my 26 Crusiers . The ply wood that was used after 9 years gave up the fight . My pole holders are mounted in the corners . I bought 4 - 6'by 3/4" by 12" read oak to redue the structure . Gorilla glue ( never tried it ) stainless t- 50 staples , heavy duty electric staple gun .<br /> Seats need to be done also . I thought maybe fiberglass the ply wood ? or do the oak<br /> I made a rocket lancher to hold 5 poles out of oak , no finish , left them raw . It was mounted behind the helm ,and still holding up after 9 years ;this is why I chose the oak .

Get some West System Epoxy and treat all the bare wood before putting it together. Fiberglass isn't near as good as the epoxy for waterproofing.

I just redid the back seat and engine cover on my Baja. There's outdoor grade plywood that's avaiable at Home Depot and then treat it with the Epoxy. All depends upon how much protection you want from water intrusion.<br /><br />I also made sure that I used rust resistent staples.

Sealing the wood with a wood sealer or coating of some kind is necessary. It must be done on all sides or the wood/plywood will warp. I f a sealer rather than coating is used the seat must vent, so cover the back/bottom with plastic mesh or similar venting/breathable materials. Outdoor grade ply "painted" a few times with a good sealer will stand up for many years, much depends on amount of exposure. Use marine vinyl (about $7-8/yd) stainless screws fittings and staples, along with appropriate foam cushioning material.

Reagrding the staples... I was told that Stainless Steel is too brittle and may tend to break when they go into the epoxied over wood.. It was suggested to me to use "Monel" staples.. They are non corrosive and a less brittle. (They are kind of like a galvanized staple...) They have them at Home Depot.

If it matters, stainless may show specs of rust and stain the fabric. Monel doesn't do this.

Hmmm... 26 cruisers..... thats one heck of alot of seats. You should consider having everyone stand up more. Maybe install a barbeque in those positions.... much less work.
