i'm looking at a '93 115 crossflow that will come with no boat-side harness or remote control. this will be going into a little fast boat where i really should convert it to a foot-throttle anyway, due to needing two hands on the wheel when it gets into the mid-50's and beyond.
so i was thinking maybe i could buy the end of the connector that goes toward the boat as a pigtail, and hook the boat-side systems to it. first, i've priced a couple of these, and they seem to cost in the neighborhood of $200 for just a plug with 15 feet of wire. this seems a little high to me and i wonder if any of you all have a cheaper source than $200?
also, as to the "customers" on the boat side of the system:
1] warning horn/buzzer: can i just use a 12v automotive or generic horn?
2] neutral safety switch: i'd have to try to rig it to a dedicated, shift-only binnacle, like the other "fastboaters" use. i've never done this and have no idea what i'm up against
3] choke: i'm pretty sure i could use a mil-spec "momentary-on" toggle switch to run the choke, like i did on one of my other boats
4] ignition: could use a basic, "off-on" mil-spec toggle
items 3 and 4 i've done before on my 1960 fiberglass classic with a 35hp "big twin", and it works very will indeed.
anything else? discuss?
