Boat Speakers

I need to replace the boat speakers on a used Powerquest my son just bought. All four speaker cones have damage. We noticed that each speaker looks to have some white silicone between the speaker and the fiberglass mounting hole besides being screwed to this fiberglass surface. Is it necessary to use the silicone between these two surfaces or can we just screw each speaker directly to the fiberglass mounting surface?

Re: Boat Speakers

Whatever you like . . . the silicone was probably there to eliminate the possibility of vibrations, etc.

Re: Boat Speakers

I would say no, just the PO being particular when he put the speakers in, you can or you can't but it doesn't need to be done.

If you haven't gotten speakers yet look into Wet Sounds, they are absolutely killer speakers, newer company but built for boats.
