boat stearing

just put in a used tele-flex steering unit and steering wheal .and there seames to be a lot of play also if you turn the
wheal to the right the boat goes left and ect. just dont sound right to me.

Some play is normal but if it's excessive (more than an inch or two) the helm is sloppy. Assuming this is a single cable system, the previous installation was obviously different. Is this a rack or round helm? If a round helm, does the cable go into the helm on the top or bottom? If it's a round helm, move the cable to the opposite hole and that will reverse your steering. It should steer exactly like your car.

ok , found the problem ,thanks for the info. cable was ran backwards
