I have a 1990 Hydro sport bass boat it has a 150 evinrude on it. The steering has been pretty still like 2 handed stiff and I have been looking at replacing it. it has a detmar rack and pinion system in it. They are no longer so I was thinking of using the ss152 teleflex dual system on it but I have one problem. I don't think the rack will fit under the dash. The rack that is under there now from center of wheel to the left end is coming up around 81/2 inchs to the end and it is against the fiberglass on the left now with that system. I found some specs on the teleflex system and they show that is is 91/4 inch from the center of wheel to the left end of the rack. Now my question is if anyone has this system can you tell me if those measurements are true or could you PLEASE measure it and let me know as I have no extra room there with the system that was on it and I am afraid the teleflex rack will end up being too long. There is really no room for me to move it but about 3/16th of an inch it was really tight and there is also no room for me to move the gauges over any either as whoever cut the holes didn't leave any room there would be a whole showing if I move the gauge any. PLEASE I need the measurement before I stoke out $400 to $500 bucks. If it is too long what other options do I have? I am going to try to do the air pressure and clean the cables that are there but I would still like to know because I would like to upgrade it to the NFB anyway.

THANKS SO MUCH

Welcome, first, does the motor move freely with the cable disconected? If yes, then if a rack doesnt fit, look at getting a rotory system. They dont take up the room side to side, and work good too.
