I have a 1985 Sea Ray Seville with a Merch 3.7L 170HP. The problem I am having is after I shut down the boat to pick up a skier, the engine will not shut down right away. It takes a few rotations then bogs down. Not sure on what this problem could be. Any thoughts. Thanks

Re: Boat still runs after being shut off

It's called dieseling. And shutting them down immediatly after a hard run will sure cause it. You should let it idle for 1 to 2 minutes to cool and clear the combustion chamber before shutting down. When this is happening, the engine is usually running backwards, and you can suck water back through the exhaust and into the cylinders. "Not Good"<br />Also be sure your idle rpm is where it should be.
