I have a 1996 18' Sea Ray Sport that has a 96 135 HP Black Max. It was my father's and I recently inherited it. It has been stored in a dry well kept barn for 6 years. It ran fine when it was last used. I'm driving down to get it this weekend and was wondering what I should be looking to replace? i.e. hoses, seals, gas ect.. I'm new to marine engines so I don't know a whole lot. I have a mechanics degree so I know the basics. Already know I'm probably gonna need new batteries. What else?

Look for :
Gunked up carbs/injectors
fuel pump gunked up or diaphram dried out
anti siphon valve stuck or clogged
fuel filter
gas tank/old fuel/gunk
fuel hoses/fuel ball primer
control cables stuck or stiff to operate

six years is a long time for anyting to sit !
mine had set for three years and I had to visit most of the things I listed

I'd be prepared that you'll need new trailer tires and possibly bearings for the trip back too, possible lighting issues also.

In addition, I'd replace the water pump impeller before I started it.

To be sure of condition, the first thing I would do is remove all the spark plugs, and then turn the flywheel by hand, feeling for "catches" indicating corrosion in bearings or cylinders.

hope it helps

Thanks for the info! can't wait for Saturday. I was sent some recent pics of where its sitting and both tires appear to be flat so gonna take a set with me. As for other trailer issues I think there is an auto zone not to far away from where it is.

Update for refference to others who have a similar question. Out of storage to water I had to:

1. Change the impeller

2. A seal came loose on the power head in the shaft when we removed the lower unit due to drying so the powerhead had to be removed to replace the seal. (word of advice, be very careful when you remove a lower unit don't just jerk it out. You never want to go through this!)

3. New gas and oil

4. Trailer tires and lights, also had to rewire the lights due to drying and cracking of old wiring.

Now she runs but I have a throttle problem. Dunno if its related to the storage but thats another thread.
