I have a 1975 19’ center console. The Certificate of Number shows it as a 1975 SALTY 19’. I’ve searched that make, i’ve searched the serial#, hull#, etc. I can’t figure out what boat I have. I’m getting ready to get it restored but I wanna know what it is. Serial# APL000490775 is imprinted on Hull.

Thank you very much for all the info, I never knew any of that. Thanks for removing photo. I’m assuming this boat was manufactured by Old Salt Marine then since it says its a SALTY on certificate. I’m not buying it, it was given to me. The engine runs, i’m just trying to figure out if it would be worth restoring the hull and console to make look new. Then I may wanna put a newer engine on it. Its on an old Dilly Tilting trailer that I need to do some work on as well.

Old Salt is a good a guess as any. :smile: Looking at the HIN report, it seems the company has had a few twists and turns - The link to Anarchy Powerboats is dead.

My first boat was in Texas when I lived down there. TX registers outboards, so if you have complete paperwork there should be registration for that. The boat and outboard are regoed through Parks and Wildlife and the trailer through DPS. You probably know all that.

Just keep asking questions. For trailer or motor questions, start threads in their sections so the right members see them.

And of course more photos! :D

Ok great, I will look into the outboard and see if it is the original motor that came on the boat. Maybe you could tell me what your opinions are on the few concerns I have? But first please tell me if you think its feasible for me to restore this boat and put all the money into it or would I be spending too much money on such an old boat???

1. Since i’m gonna repair some soft spots in the floor directly behind the console in the center all the way back to transom, would it be best to go ahead and tear the entire floor out and install all new floor?

2. Every center console restoration video i’ve watched online shows them tearing the floor out and pulling the gas tank out from underneath the floor. So I look at mine and wonder why The gas tank is above the floor inside the cubby on the console?? Surely that isn’t the original manufacturer design.

3. I don’t know how bad the transom is or if its bad but I will definitely get a new transom just to be safe. Should I go with an original style transom which i assume is just plywood and fiberglass, or does anyone have experience with that newer design transom with some type of pour in mold???

4. Are certain Hulls only rated for so much horsepower based on design, size, etc? Or are they not rated and doesn’t matter what size motor? I’m trying to determine if I could safely run a 225-300hp on this boat after it is structurally sound again.

5. Does anyone have any idea about how much it would cost me to have a fiberglass boat restoration shop install all new stringers & floor. Refurb or replace console. Construct & install new transom, patch deep scratches, gouges and knicks on bottom of hull, then finish it off with a nice modern gelcoat paint job.

Nice gifted fishing rig ! Usually when someone gets a free boat it’s from someone wanting the old runabout planter removed from there yard .:lol:
I don’t know what a shop would charge to rehab . Most of us are more DIYers .. As open as your cc is it would be a relatively easy rehab . That is if your a hands on guy and have basic carpentry skills .. Idk , it doesn’t look like there would be much room under the deck for a fuel tank unless it was custom made to fit .. I could be wrong ...

Thank yall for the welcome greetings. I’m also a DIY’er with almost all things. I am purely a hands on guy, carpentry skills are ok i think, i’ve done my own tile and laminate flooring, dry wall install, built dog houses, etc...having a custom fuel tank fabricated seems fairly quick and easy, I just hate that its right there in the console, that may be my only option. So how does an OPEN cc make a restoration easier? Due to less time and labor or does that affect the specs of the fiberglass needed for repair...

Idk why but fiberglass and boats just made me think that if I miss any small step that i’d be sinking one-day with nobody in sight. I’ve seen a persons transom split down the center when he engaged engine and gave it throttle. The boat then sank quickly. I’ve also thought I may be overthinking the process.

It should be easier because once you get the console out of the way it is nice and open area to work and you may not need to pop the cap off to do the restoration ..

1) I may be the best idea to replace the whole deck. Then you can see everything that need fixed. It seems like a small soft spot is always hiding more bad stuff underneath.

2) Many, especially older, center consoles put the tank under the console. No problems with it there, in fact it's easier to keep an eye on it for leaks, etc.

3) The pour in stuff is expensive and the money can be put to use for gas after you're finished.

4) The Coast Guard developed a formula to determine max horsepower. It factors in the beam, hull depth and a few other things I don't remember offhand. Look inside the boat for a capacity tag, they often have max power on them,

5) Lots and lots, probably more than the boat is worth. It's expensive and there goes your gas money into a shops pocket.

The boat that split probably needed fixing long before it sank. People ignore the warning signs, unfortunately.

Ok gentlemen, I sure do appreciate all the info. I have mede the decision to take on this restoration project myself, i’m gonna try to do everything myself. I’m going to start taking everything off, the motor, console, t top, chairs, electrical wiring, etc.

So when I cut the deck out to get to the stringers, am I supposed to keep the flooring in good shape so I can reuse the original fiberglass flooring? If it is still in tact structurally of course. I’m not exactly sure how or where to cut the old transom off of the boat.

If I wanted to build the casting deck up higher to be more even with the cap of the boat, would the change in shape and weight affect the boat floating evenly in any way?

You could probably move the casting deck up some without effecting it to much . I would still make sure it’s tabbed into the hull sides though .. before you cut the floor out make sure you have it shored up under the hull with either added bunks or cradle of some sorts . You don’t want the hull to flex out of shape during the demo then you glass a hook or something back into it by accident... I don’t know if you could save the glass on top of the old plywood deck or not .
You want to seal the underside of the new deck before you install it . Sometimes people forget to do that and we do recommend it .. Choose your poison ! Epoxy or poly resin .. If you plan on spraying or rolling gell coat on then stick with poly resin . If paint then either one is fine .
Gunna need a good respirator along with the usual PPE .. Fiberglass dust is killer on your lungs . The little paper dust mask are not good enough when you start grinding .. I have a full face respirator and it’s great for grinding but a half faced one with safety glasses will work good also ..
I have found the best tool for cutting through glass is an angle grinder with the thin metal cutting disk . For grinding ,the same angle grinder with the rubber or plastic backer with 36 grit pads .
Skill saw , sawzall , multi tool are all good implements of destruction also ...
