How can a get an out of state boat and trailer registered in Louisiana when all the paperwork is gone? The boat was sold in North Carolina and trailered to Louisiana. The boat was sold again to me and now the paperwork is missing.

Re: BOAT/TRAILER REGISTRATION

From the Louisiana wildlife page "Boats coming into Louisiana from another state must have the out-of-state registration or title, invoice from dealer, or a notarized bill of sale with raised seal. In addition, if the boat is 10 or less years old, a completed original Tax Certification Form R-1331 is required. If out-of-state registration/title is not available, a certified original letter from the state that the boat is leaving acknowledging the status of the boat or documentation of origination of the boat is required."

There are avenues you can follow (apply for lost title, tracking down past owners, taking ownership of an abonanded vessel, there are services that will take care of getting you a tittle (not nessarally 100% legal in all places but....)ect.).

The best advice I can give you is to check with the local authorites (wildlife department) NICELY asking them what you would need to do (advice....jump THRU their hoops). They are really good people that want to do alot to help you get a boat (and tax money) on their water. Then if need be you can explare other options.

The trailer is normally really a simple matter of paperwork at the DMV.
