Hello Again,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience transporting a 14' aluminum in a mid size truck. I own a Toyota Tacoma and with the tail gate down box measures about 7.5'. Is it possible to tie down and transport that size of boat safely in this size of truck. Besides "buy a bigger truck :) " does anyone have any advice?

Thanks

Jackpine

Don’t know where you are but most (all?) states limit how far something can hang out the back of a vehicle…and 6 ½ feet isn’t going to be within the limit. :) Either up and over the cab or on a trailer.

Btw, you make a good case for buying an inflatable boat. :)

Heavy end to front, find a way to to strap stern (I'm assuming thats the heavy end ) to bed of truck and put a red flag or rag on end that hangs off of tailgate(if more than 3 feet). Red Lights required after dark. You should be O.k. as long as you make sure its tied down good.

Jim

If you have a trailer hitch, you can buy an extension that fits in the hitch receiver. It is meant to help support overhanging loads and should work well in your application.

Throw it in stern first and it will be fine. My dad always used to take his 14ft john boat in his Chevy S-10 regular length bed and never had any problems. we even hauled it in the back of an 82 pontiac bonnevil full size station wagon. Hook a red rag on the side hanging out of the truck.

Used to put my 12' tinny in the back of my 1986 Toyota 4x4 all the time. Never had a problem. Strap it down. You don't want it to go flying in an accident or if you have to stop fast.
