Boat under powered or have a problem?

Hi All,

Just bought a 2007 Bayliner 195 with a 4.3 190hp. Put a high 5 19 inch prop on it.

The boat weighs 2900lbs and with 400lbs (2 guys) in the boat I do 37mph (backed up with gps) and about 4300 rpm in smooth zero wind conditions.

I drive the boat in Calgary at an elevation of 3700 feet above sea level so that might make a difference.

Anyway I feel the speed seems a bit slow but would the speed not be the same in any boat with a 19 inch prop at 4300 rpm?

Should I be getting more speed and rpm or is this about right.

Thinking about going down to a 17 inch high 5?

Thanks in advance

Re: Boat under powered or have a problem?

recommended max RPM for your motor is 4400-4800 so you are a bit low at WOT. the 17 will get you to the sweet spot. RPM should pick up 300-400 so speed should be close to the same. 37 is about right. You have a lot of boat for that small 4.3 I know it is too late now but you should have gone with at least the 5.0 or if you like to fly the 5.7
