Hi,

I was wondering if someone could give me an idea of the value of this rig. I understand that the value "is in the eye of the beholder" but some good opinions would be helpful.

I have the opportunity to buy a 17' ArrowGlass boat. I believe the boat is probably early '70's. The boat has been sitting for 10-12 years. The fiberglass on it is really nice. The paint has faded some. This boat has a center console. The floor may be soft in a few spots. The front of the boat is a slight step up and is all fiberglass (the floor). This would be the area where you can operate a trolling motor and where the anchor would be. The transom seems very strong. Basically the only problem with the boat would possibly be the floor and carpeting.

The trailer is nice. It has 2 flat tires but is very sturdy.

It has a 1976 Chrysler 120 HP outboard on it. The motor has also been setting for 12 years. Before it was going to set, they put oil in each cylinder. Some of the wiring is slightly corroded. I messed with it some yesterday and got it to turn over. I was checking the compression, not trying to actually start it (plugs out). I don't know, however, if the motor will run and what kind of work it might take to get it into "useable" shape.

So what would this be worth??.....

He is asking $600 for it all.

Shane

turtle1173

I hate to say it, but if the Motor doesn't run and the boat needs alot of work(Could be rotton under floor), he should let you take it away just to get rid of it. Not worth anything the way it is. Sorry..

Turtle - The last thing you want is a hole in the water that you throw money into...and this could be it. I love a deal but I don't think this is it. Boat and motor that old is one thing, but the fact that it has not run for so long is another. That motor would probably make a better anchor or mooring. $100...tops!

Shane - Consider offering him a couple of hundred if you are willing to take it on as a project and if you can stand to loose if it turns out to be more than you want to deal with. Might be fun to play with without getting burned too bad and who knows it might not be a big deal to get goin. Just don't get your hopes up to high.

Years ago I bought a 19' Glastron with a Merc. 80 on it with trailer that had been sitting for a few years. I figgured the motor was shot and got the rig for $375. Hot wired it & it fired right up. Got a key, fixed the rot added a bunch of TLC and ran that sucker for 7 years in salt water. When the Merc died I put a used OMC 140 on it and ran it for another 8 years. Was running when I sold it. I lucked out but figgured that it was a basket case when I started.

Howard
Miami, Fl
