Hello,

New to iBoats but I'm hoping someone knows the answer. I'm considering purchasing a new boat and I'm comparing everything down to the nth detail. I currently own a 1997 Wellcraft Excel SSX175 with a Volvo Penta 4.3L V-6. One site lists the weight at 1900 pounds. I need to know if this includes the engine. I know the I/O weighs in at around 870 pounds. That would mean the boat weighs in at under 1100 pounds. Does that sound right?

Re: Boat weight

No, or at least I'd be surprised if it did. Just looking at the 4 cylinder glastrons that are comparable to that (mx175), that boat comes in at 2300 pounds dry, with a 135hp 4 cylinder 3 liter.

Re: Boat weight

Thanks smokingcrater. Just so I'm certain: "dry weight" is the weight of the boat without the engine, correct?

Re: Boat weight

Dry Weight is the weight of the boat as sold with any inboard engine and running gear but without bolt on items or fluids. No fuel, oil, battery, tower, bimini, etc.
An outboard is a bolt on, effectively so it is not included in the dry weight for an OB boat.

Not always... Especially when the boat has various engine options, as this one does, or they spec it with one specific engine. Like I (and others) mentioned above, 1900# minus 900# for an outdrive leaves 1000# of fiberglass. Not happening for a typical 17.5ft bowrider unless its been gutted.

Re: Boat weight

From wellcraft's site... (they have great info on EVERY model they have ever made...) It is 1900# with the 4 cylinder 3.0 in it. So just figure out the weight of that 3.0 (probably about 600#), subtract, and add your drive/engine.
