boat will not plane

1980-1981 merc 225 on v-20 wellcraft idles fine &<br />will rev over 5000 rpm in neutral. But when i put the motor into "F" i can not get the boat on plane<br />or over 1800 rev's . Checked compression 5 cyl's<br />showing 125-130 lbs, 1 cyl @ 75 lbs only.Removed head bore has small score in it would that cause it. o-yeah checked carbs all 3 very clean. new fuel before i started. If this is the problem is it worth fixing on that particular motor. motor looks new been sitting a long time.<br /><br /> thanks: andyadmas

Try a couple of squirts of oil in the low cylinder and recheck. See if it comes up.

Before you go to too much trouble buy yourself a can of Deep Creep and run it through the carbs at idle. I had the exact same problem and that's what fixed it. You might also need to rebuild your fuel pump.

try pumping your fuel bulb when underway and see if it picks up on plane, if it does check your fuel pump diaphram.<br />Cheers<br />Ross
