i have a 12 foot vhull aluminum aero-craft with a 9 1/2 evinrude on it.i just took it out today first time and could not get it to plane.engine runs great i have been though almost every bolt on it.there is some adjustments on the engine tilt but i am not sure how much to tilt it.i am not really going to go in the gulf with it that much. i just mainly got it for the river (no wake)and flats but i thought that with such a small boat the motor should have moved it pretty good.any ideas

Re: boat wont plane

sounds to me like you had the weight distributed correctly. You probably need to trim the engine down a little to get the boat to plane.

I have the same type of rig with a 1975 9.9 long shaft. Gets me (@ 200 lbs) & wife (good size gal) up on a plane quite necely. Play with the adjustments.

wayne,

The trim is the tilt. I would set the trim pin in the lowest (closest to transom) holes. That tucks the foot of the engine "under" and will aid in planing.

if she is like my wife the gear she brings along adds up to another whole person. but many of my male friends are that way too. i'm not bashing the fairer sex. somebody has to have the second job to pay for 2.10 a gallon gas and boat parts. recycling the beverages can really reduce the weight.

You may be just a tad short on HP for two people. The 9.5 is crankshaft rated (probably just a little stronger than a new 8 HP). Try going by yourself and a piece of PVC you can slip over the tiller (so you can sit on the mid or front seat). That should be able to plane you, unless you're 300+ pounds with that engine. I'd hold off on the doel-fin (from experience), on smaller motors, you don't want to use motor power to correct trim. If you have two people, have one person at the bow until you get on plane, then have them sit as far back as will allow you to stay on plane.

the trim pin was 2 clicks high so i hope this will help out the boat moves pretty well even know its not on plane and i must say i was very surprised that it idled so well on the river for about 3-4 hours.i have a rattle that i need to find but for a 1972 engine i guess a rattle or 2 is not bad lol. it was a nice firt time out on the water
