First boat I have owned so be patient... Its a Force 85
Was running OK but would lose power, now won't start
The negative battery terminal gets very hot to the touch.

when I engage fast idle the linkage barley moves, is this correct?

Any help on where to start would be great. Thanks so much

Re: Boat wont start

wont start as in flywheel spins but no fire? or is it firing (putting) and never starts up. I love a motor that doesnt start you usually only have 2 main problems gas or fire. Throw some carb cleaner in the intake and see if it runs for a second or two then dies(fuel problem)
For spark pull plugs out get a scren driver, insert into end of plug wire and hold the screw driver close to any ground (not next to fuel) then have someone turn the motor. Then check if you see spark arch from the screwdriver to the ground. (if not spark problem)

Do a compression/spark test. Then remove the starter and clean the brushes/armature.
Check all connections,must be tight.J

I dont recomend anyone with little knowledge pulling a starter motor apart ...If your neg bat terminal is getting hot then its corroded ..take that all to bits and clean it ....pouring boiling water over it to remove the white deposit is the first job...then fuel and spark ....
