Re: boaters insurance

my boat is financed, so i needed it. covers everything, much like a car. luckily, i've never had to rely on it for anything. i pay very little through usaa, but membership is limited to military officers. others are sure to jump in.

Get a several quotes from a couple of companies/agents. Prices vary significantly for the same coverage.

There has been many previous posts concerning insurance. Do a search and read away!

Got mine - mostly liablity - from Boat US. Did it for peace of mind more than anything else. When towing, my car insurance covers accidents.

I have full coverage with USAA. Only had one claim - picked up a plastic bag & cooked a motor - they paid with no questions asked. Great company if you qualify. Non profit - owned by it's members.

I use Progressive here in Florida. They seem to be very competative on boat and PWC insurance. When I had my motorcycle I used them also. They had the lowest rates on m/c insurance. For automobiles & house, I use someone else.

I have all my other insurance with them, so I went with State Farm. No claims yet.

I got the insurance mainly because teenagers drive the boat and the lake is a lot more crowded than it used to be. I also found out that State Farm's homeowner's provides no coverage for boats stored on property.

The price is worth the peace of mind.

Re: boaters insurance

I have no complaints about State Farm...good prices and they have replacement cost coverage for boats; a lot of companies don't offer that. They also include environmental damage in their liability coverage, which is becoming a really big deal (The Corps of Engineers had to spend a bazillion dollars cleaning up 2 qts. of oil on the Columbia the other day....and they spilled it!).
You need to ask what the navigational limits are for your area, and make sure those limits fit your boating habits. I've noticed not all companies and/or agents' staff know about boat policies, so when in doubt, check with another source.

Mike - They did'nt buy me a new one and I wouldn't have expected them to but they paid every dime of the rebuild.

Re: boaters insurance

This topic was raised on another forum; the CEO of Progressive is active in liberal causes: a Kerry supporter, wants to ban guns and is pro-abortion (OK, so he's the opposite of my views).
Guess it depends upon whether or not you want to use your wallet as an additional voting tool, but I would have difficulty dealing with them for those reasons...(sigh)...OK, so I'm complicating the decision-making process even more!

I have a 1988 stratos 201 pro. progresive's price was over $400 a year. My state farm is $107 a year. Both was quoted for the same coverage.

AAA said that if my car had collision coverage, it would cover collision with a (boat)trailer up to $1000.
