Is there any kind of boating check list you can use before you go out?
Like check oil, transom plug, exc. The lakes around here are small, about the biggest thing I'll boat on is the Missouri River. This is all new to me and would like to do it right. The boat is small,

Re: Boating check list?

about the biggest thing I'll boat on is the Missouri River
that's pretty big. + i consider it much more challenging for boat handling than any area lake. the current is pretty swift.

as for the list. i made my own. this is what i call my aristocraft base item list.

these are must haves:

1 ea. adult orange life jackets, jim, carol, zack pfd's
whistle, + air horn
2 ea. oars
bailing bucket
fire extinguisher, uscg approved type B-1
orange waterski flag
2 ea. blue throw cushions
registration

these are my standard items list:

trash can with liner
4 ea. dock lines
4 ea. dock bumpers
2 ea. pwc bumpers
misc. lines
2 anchors, 150' of line., 50' + 100'
swim ladder
personal pfds
pee bucket/ bailing bucket
canvas top
tool kit
service manual, clymers
boat hook
binoculars
cell phone
lounge chairs
spare prop, prop nut, prop wrench, thrust washer & lock tab
service rags/ paper towels
lead additive
2 ea. qt. of 25W45 mercruiser motor oil
ashtray

i always check my engine oil prior to a run

i always put the plug in first thing at the ramp. i keep my plug on my dash console of my van and look at it frequently. keeps me wishing i was on the lake. point is i see it.

the more you go out, the more you'll discover the items you want to take with you. i have more items on board than what i have listed, but they are add on items that i can live or live without..

for river running, i have flares on board too + vhf. i also keep a chart of the river on board too. you should be able to acquire it from the corp. of engineers. i think is where i got it at..

have fun with your new boat man and be safe.. sweet looking new boat too btw. i like the white. good choice i think... ;)

safety on the river is a must.
