With the recent heat wave here in Central Ohio (was close to 60 today!) we drove up to Indian Lake for lunch and a nice walk along the water side paths.
We all have boating fever bad now! Ice is slowly melting, lots of open water, and was really surprised at the number of boat dealers open on a Saturday (especially after noon) this time of year. They all looked fairly busy so we must not be the only ones with the itch.
Had a great time walking the path (while being pulled by our black Lab) and reminiscing about some of the great times we had out on the water.
Might go visit our boats in storage tomorrow just to say hi to them.
Won't be long now!

Pulln the SS Pooter out Monday from cold storage. Got to add some new toys on and do some pm then its gator time.. Got to get some time on the arm before I meet BubbaKat in a couple of weeks.

No more will I have to listen to those who had the pleasure of chasing the fin all winter and how nice the weather is. It may be only in the fortys but the hunt is on for the elusive warrior..

Re: Boating Fever

I went down to my dock today and did some casting. It was sort of sad and pathetic considering the level is ten feet below summer depth, and I could clearly see the mud at the bottom. The ice has finally broken and is gone, and we have had high 40s for the last few weeks. I have been getting some piddly things done on the boat like putting on a grabrail and installing the fishfinder, but unless I hook up and tow it around to the far side of the lake where the only operational ramp is (water is too low for the nearby ramps), I am stuck.....

Only 45 days to go here. And I don't want to hear no more whining about " I gotta drive clear around the lake if I wanna go out." :D They still haven't taken the fish houses off the lake here. On the upside looks like in about two weeks I'll be on the Laguna Madre (S. Texas) for a half day of fishing specks and reds and a hAlf day fishing offshore for snapper. :)

I have to get my truck put back together so I can get my boat out and put back together. My truck is still buried under a snow drift and if I could get it out I'd probably be able to drive it across the lake the ice is so thick yet!

It is warming up quickly though, 50s today!!! :D :D :D

I couldn't move the boat right now if my life depended on it. Spring thaw has the road too soft to drag a trailer on it.

You Civil War buffs ever hear of Gen. Burnside's Mud March? Virginia roads, gotta love 'em!

Jinx

All of our SS props are stored atop the credenza in my office and as I type I look longingly at them and think of them slicing through the water.....

Re: Boating Fever

Joe, the Army Corps of Engineers drop the lake level 10 feet every September to create more spawning grounds for the Kokanee. It also helps with the hydro-electric dam, how I have no idea. The Kokanee have been decimated by lake trout and being over-fished, so it has been the hope that by dropping the lake level it will create more shallow areas for the kokanee to spawn. There has been a huge back-lash though, because a lot of people do not care much for spending huge dollars for lake front property that is only useful for half the year. In my mind it doesn't matter because it gets too damn cold to go out anyway, but they are looking into changing how they drop the lake, since it has made little improvement with the kokanee situation anyway. I would be happy if they dropped the lake in late October and brought it back up in March.

Sat in mine the other day.
2 projects to do on the boat this year.
Install the water separater that I bought.
And decide on the type and location for 2 beverage holders.

The good news is that I can be ready to launch in an hour. THe bad news, is that I will need to drive 3 hours to find fishable open water. Snowmobiles and ice shanties still rule the lakes.

Planning on April 4th walleye spawning run on the Wolf River.

Good God... It's forcasted for 60 here in wisconsin in Feb. I'm going to need a prozac. Boat is 3hrs. away in storage so to even look at it isn't possible, but I have all my toys bought over the winter to play with. Wait, that frustrates me all the more. :( :(

Will do for sure.
I have a LOT of free time to kill on these projects so I tend to do a lot of roaming around.
I check in in the morning, make sure everyone shows up, pat everyone on the back for a great job day before, and leave them alone to do their work.
Stop in at night to make sure building is locked up and scope out what got accomplished.

When it's warm the boat goes to work with me.
