Boating - what fun

Just spent 2 days on Lake George, NY - started with the 200 mile trip. Have only had the boat 6 weeks and have been telling myself I really need to get that spare tire.....well you guessed it about 80 miles up the thruway trailer tire blows....2 hours and $160 later we are on our way.

Launching the boat ....the ramp is pretty steep I'm admiring the view as cranking down and the handle slips, spins at about 1000 mph and thumps me on the ribs.

I will not be deterred ....spent the next 2 days with picture perfect weather....crystal clear water....camping.....exploring islands around the lake. Life gets no better.

After being at least 25+ miles from our campsite on the last day there the engine dies on the way back in. Has enough power to just float to the dock. Good news is we made it back...bad news is I worried sick about what happened to my engine.

walk the boat up onto the trailer. Start to pull up slowly and hear scraping because I forgot to raise the outdrive because I was not IN the boat loading it on to trailer which interrupted my usual routine. - no damage

Now as I pull up for whatever reason I must not have had the winch locked in because the boat moves and gets caught by the safet chain....unfortunately the chain was somehow over the v shaped rubber bow support so I could not winch it forward.

Took the rubber v shaped thing off to get some slack ...started to winch and the strap lets go at the hook. Boat stayed on the trailer.

tied a knot in the strap around the hook and hauled azz home the next morning. changed the other tire on the trailer before heading back just in case.

they say these things happen to everyone in the course of their boating career. I guess I just got a bunch of mine out of the way in one shot.

Looks like Mr. Murphy spent his vacation with you. It looks like you have all of the problems out of the way for future use.

Ouch. Seems you have to always take into account that something can go wrong and be prepared to deal with it.

Good God, you got lucky, if anyone of those little problems had a different resolution you could've been seriously screwed. Just read some of the other stories of where engines quit and what happened when straps or cables broke. Mercifully you made it through in one piece:)

That really is a good point.....could have lost control of trailer at 65 mph and lost boat..could have broke rib....could have needed a 25 mile tow, the boat could easily have wound up on the concrete with no trailer underneath it TWICE. When you look at that way the glass was definitely half full!!!

What's up with the engine?

Still trying to figure that out. I think I am getting closer. I ruled out fuel problem and checked compression which is perfect on all 4 cylinders so it doesnt appear to be anything major (that was my initial fear) Pretty sure it is electrical ...have new ignition stuff, points , cap and such coming on Monday . Missed 2 nice weekends which has me bummed but sooner or later I'll get it.
