bogged down bad

have a 1987 omc 1.6 litre (135) hp with a vro system..i just brought the boat with the owner not being able to solve the problem,, please HELP,,the motor runs and starts fine out of gear,,when you open the trottle i only get 3000 rpms and it boggs down,,,BUT if i push in the choke button on the key switch and hold it then it jumps to 4500 rpm and takes off and runs get..when i let go of the key it bogs down again...help please i changed the vro,carbs cleaned, added a electric fuel pump, rerouted the fuel from the boats tank to external tank with a regular pump, and it still bogged..what can i try next

Maddrey....I think I would go back to the carbs. When they were cleaned, did you soak them, then blow out all passages with carb cleaner and follow up with air? Pushing in on the choke is a sign that the fuel isn't making it through the carbs.

I agree with OBJ.<br /><br />Also check to make sure the timing base is advancing smoothly with the throttle opening.
