i have a 1987 omc 1.6 litre (135) hp with a vro system..i just brought the boat with the owner not being able to solve the problem,, please HELP,,the motor runs and starts fine out of gear,,when you open the trottle i only get 3000 rpms and it boggs down,,,BUT if i push in the choke button on the key switch and hold it then it jumps to 4500 rpm and takes off and runs get..when i let go of the key it bogs down again...help please i changed the vro,carbs cleaned, added a electric fuel pump, rerouted the fuel from the boats tank to external tank with a regular pump, and it still bogged..what can i try next,,

Did you clean the carbs or tear them down and chem dip them following up with spray carb cleaner and compressed air.<br />Sounds like a fuel delivery problem, high speed jets plugged. OR you could have a vaccuum/air leak in the 1st half of the power head creating a lean condition at higher RPM's.<br /><br />my 0.02

How did you "clean the carbs"? Gummout sprayed in the throttle body won't do enough. Try tearing the carbs down, cleaning everything as Kevin said. If it runs better choked, you are shutting down the air flow causing a rich fuel condition. This means you don't have enough gas entering the engine. <br />Check the condition of your fuel line. I have seen weak fuel lines collapse from the suction of the pump. <br />It is probably in the carbs though.
