i found these snapped bolts in my bilge area. Any idea what yhey are for. I was in a rush at the ramp and dragged the outdrive on the concrete. When i raises it up I heard a snap, likely these bolts. Trim now makes a whining noise only when lowering. A small amount of lubricant also looked to be draining from the drain plug hole. Engine is a volvo penta 3.0 with xs m outdrive

No more rushing at the ramp for you :(

Probably best to take a look in the engine compartment to see what looks loose. Just trying to visualize what dragging the outdrive on the ramp would do to result in snapped bolts that look like those. As Scott said, they do look like bolts to the starter.

Agree on the starter bolt theory but don't see how dragging the drive would break a starter bolt.

I agree about starter bolts and that's where they end up when they break off. Which 3.0 and year? I ask because I thought the 2 bolts on my 3.0gs were different lengths and those appear to be the same. Earlier this season I shut down my engine in the middle of the lake. When I went to restart the engine it started to turn over then just began to grind. Upon further inspection, I had one bolt snapped off laying in the bilge and the other had backed out about an inch. The starter was resting on the backed out bolt and not engaging the flywheel. As far as I can tell, the one bolt backed out putting all the stress on the other. The one eventually snapped. Also not sure how the outdrive bump would do this, but maybe it's unrelated and just came to light after inspection. I would verify how many starter bolts you have and how many there should be.
