Ok so my truck 91 f250 diesel 7.3lt has not moved in the last week and a half (the temperature has been in the minus 20c low, high of minus 10c), due to the fact that 2-3 glow plugs are burned out and my stupid block heater cord needed replacing.
So replaced the block heater cord, truck block warms up and I

TRIP the tank selector to see how much is in the other tank Before I start the truck.
The needle jumps up past full by a third, I go to start the truck and the dang thing will idle for a second or two then die.
So when I tripped the tank selector did it get frozen between tank A and tank B and all I should have to do is thaw out the selector box or is the hammer in order???

Ayuh,... Check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve to see if it's a fuel problem,...
Or somethingelse...

Flippin' the switch, don't mean it's broke...

I'm not going to say that this is will fix it, but I had the same problem with my old company's fuel trucks of about the same vintage whenever I forgot to put the block heater on and it was very cold outside.

What I did was put my foot on the accelerator and push it to the floor, and start it that way. It took a few times before it smoked and bellowed and burped but it caught and ran fine after that.

Just something to try.

I think when I hit the switch that the solinoid got stuck between tank A and B and thats why I have no fuel, or very little.

If the needle tops out and over full, could that be a fuse issue?????

(note to self, check fuse)

If the fuel gauge goes way above full, it usually means you have a brake in the fuel gauge wire. Its possible that you may have run your truck out of fuel thinking it was full.

For your running problem I would be looking at you fuel. How long ago did you fill your tanks. You may have summer fuel in your truck. Summer diesel will gel in cold weather. Do a fuel psi test and it will tell which direction your heading.

As you figured out at first, the transfer valve was stuck half way between the tanks, and the switch made connection to neither.

Now, rubber side down, shiny side up.:D
