Bonito boat owner, beleive it's registered wrong

I bought a Bonito boat, Evinrude motor and a trailer. Boat is registered as '68 but as I search for info it seems the previous owners (somewhere down the line) have registered the yr of the motor instead of the boat. I'm trying to track down the original owner, but we all know the chances of that. I've been to the NADA site and it shows them made only in the 80's. I find no link to the old company (of course) since it's out of business.
I know I'll find something eventually but if anyone has found info on them already it would be of great assistance to me as I'm up to my armpits in motor repairs and this is my first boat (finally!) and I'm anxious to get it in the water this year.

Are you thinking it is really an 80's model? If so, what is the hull ID number? After some year in mid 70's, all hull numbers had to follow a standard format and the year of mfr is encoded in the number. I think its the last 2 digits or maybe next to last 2 numbers with the last digit being a letter to indicate month of mfr. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Thanks,
BL...

I thought it may be the wrong year due to the NADA info. Also I've looked that boat over with a fine tooth comb and see not one single number anywhere. Have all boats always had a hull id or only after a certain year?
I've got my hands full with this one. You can bet it'll be fully enjoyed if I ever get all 3 pieces in A1 condition.
