Hello Everyone!

Can anyone recommend a good book on props? I do not know come here from sick'um about props or selecting the right prop for a boat. A DVD would also be great.

Thanks,

Grits

Re: Book on Props?

Here's a link top Mercury's web site for information on props. There are several other web sites if you do a google search for prop how they work. You'll need to remove the " at the beginning and end when you copy and paste this to your web browser.

No need to buy a book or CD. There is more information on props on the web than you can read in a lifetime. Just Google or Yahoo search on "Marine Propeller Theory" , "Marine Propeller Basics", "Marine Propeller Selection" "Marine Propeller Design" etc. The terms, diameter, pitch, rake, cupping, slip, number of blades, propeller material (aluminum, stainless steel, bronze) are all characteristics of propellers so you can also do searches on just those characteristics. Once you understand the basics, do a search for "marine propeller calculator". Using that calculator you can see the effects of changing various propeller characteristics and how they might affect performance.
