you really need to get some pro help, maybe a better alternator can be had? i love nothing more than listening to quality audio. unfortunatly most sound like crap and really pisses off the natives. i would advise using common sense when at shore.....a 44 magnum usually trumps tower speakers lol

All these amps are rated at 14.4v but batteries put out 12v. How can i make it 14.4v on my boat?

Batteries are 12.6 Nominally.
14.4 is what the typical alternator generates with the engine running.
The amps were specified for a car driving down the road. Not a parked car.
The boat will have the same issues that the car has. The amps will not mind being parked.

It will not make a hoot of difference in reality.

All electrical devices will have an allowable voltage range the 14.4 is the optimum voltage for that device, unless you are a audiophile you will never notice the difference in quality of sound @ 12v or 14 volt..........

all descent amps have safety circuits built in and will shut down if input voltage drops below the minimum allowable voltage...

In addition if your amp has a regulated power supply even a audiophile couldnt tell the difference in quality.....some amps are unregulated which means the amp will put out more power at 14v vs 12 volt.........but again not enough to notice.

I doubt you will ever be driving the amp so hard that you could get to the point where it would matter if your supply voltage was 14 or 12.6.

@unclewillie well my plan was to play the music on the boat only when we are wakeboarding or tubing..but now that i think about it we do go fishing a lot too so we need the radio on but not at full blast..lol so anyways back to that switch question.. is it wise to charge the radio battery while running or would it drain the primary battery if i put the switch at "both" when driving the boat?

As long as the weaker battery is above ~13v the stronger battery will NOT drain to charge the weaker one.

With the Motor Running.... The running part is Important!

Set the battery switch to the weaker battery for 5-10 minutes and then select BOTH. You will be fine.
Or just set it to BOTH, and don't worry about it. It will straighten itself out in a few minutes.
Don't forget to de-select BOTH when you shut off the motor or both batteries will drain.
An ACR will do all of the decision making automatically if you are inclined to install one.

You need to decide what you really want to do...
Charge from the engine?
Charge from shore power?
Manually Select Batteries with Engine operation?
Automatically select batteries?
All of the above?

Make your choice. $$$
