Hi everyone,

First post on here, just found the forum the other day and looks like there is a lot of smart people on here so Im going to ask for some help.

My father in law and I have a problem with his boss stereo in his boat. When he bought it it worked just fine when we tested it in the shop. Got out on the water and there was power to the unit and the display would would look like it was working fine and you could change it to a station but about 5 seconds after changing the station it the display would flash off and back on again at the default 88.1 station.

Im not too experienced with audio but am decent at wiring (gas fitter by trade)

if anyone can help us out it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome aboard.
I've had a similar problem with cars if they have a good accessory feed to the radio but a poor battery feed.

From the stereo the power(yellow) and the accessory (red) were twisted together and in a crimp connector with a single wire down to the battery. And the ground wire (black) was going down to the neutral side if the battery.

Called boss and talked to a tech support guy, he said the head unit was pooched and it would cost more than buying a new comparable stereo

Thanks for letting us know what the problem was. I guess that's why there aren't any radio repair shops around any more. Cheaper to replace than repair.

Yeah, I think the guy said it would've been around 40 more to get it fixed than buy a new one. On the plus side he said that if it was within the first year of us buying the boat from the previous owner there would've been a warranty on it.

Now to decide to either go with boss again or find another brand
