Up here on the River, There Is No Comparison.......
MOST Whalers are 13' to 20' center consoles......
MOST Grady's are 21'+ walk-around cuddys........

They're Both about the Best for the markets they serve up here....

They make big whalers too, they just must not be "up the river" yet :D

I'll take a 1980' 27-Offshore over a new Grady any day. Or a 25-Outrage, or a 22-Revenge, or maybe a 25-Revenge....

There are both so evenly matched that it comes down to personal preference. Pretty hard to come up with an objective poll that way.

The new walkies and cuddys made by Whaler are beautiful. I'd have to lean toward Whaler. Looks like I brought the vote to a dead heat!!

The other day coming back from a Striper trip I saw a HUGE Whaler flybridge in the 40+ range. I didn't even think they made them that big. It even still had the Whaler step hull.

If I'm buying one for my personal use in the Lower Chesapeake, it would have to be the Boston Whaler. Grady's are excellent, but BW's got more tough and technolgy!!

Either. Which ever layout suits you best is the one for you. If you are looking used, get a good survey and do a thorough inspection, the difference between the individual boats will be a bigger deal than any difference in the makes.

jocko

I believe the grady has a steeper entry angle and a smoother ride in rough seas.
4-6' ocean seas...i would rather be in my Grady Sailfish.
Michael

Re: Boston Whaler vs. Grady White

Ryan,
Did you know that all Gradys are made using closed cell foam making them virtually unsinkable? Also, consumer reports rate these boats very high, and I have never heard of any having quality issues or problems with "rot".
Whaler makes an excellent boat, although I must say the classics (1990 and older are relatively better than those produced today). If I were to buy new, I'd buy a Grady. If I were looking for used, I'd buy a whaler.
I don't see the point of your post when you compare your opening topic with your dramatic closing statement. It has no basis.
PS-I own a whaler and love it.

I'm sorry you don't like my post, toad. I did not mean to upset you.

No,
I dident know that some Grady's where made with closed cell foam, thank you. I learned something today.

It didn't upset me.
But "Grady's rot and sink", c'mon.
PS-Grady's are rated #1 in customer satisfaction by the National Marine Manufactuers Association.
Plus Gradys allow you to put Yamahas or Hondas on where BW makes you buy Mercs which IMHO are an inferior motor.
Maybe you should do an outboard survey.

My brother has a Whaler Revenge 25' and there is no doubt its a fine boat, but i think whalers are very overpriced personally
