I have a scrape along the body side of my Ranger that is from the runner on the trailer having grit on it and scraping the boat before I purchased it. The carpet on the runner has been replaced, but my question is can I spray paint over the area with no problem. There is no problem with the boat because of the scratch, but it is not pleasant to look at once your attention has been drawn to it.

In many cases, a scratch can be buffed out with wet sanding and then buffing.. how deep and large is the scratch? If its thru the gelcoat to the glass then you could get some matching gel coat and fill the scratch with that.. It would be better than trying to paint it.. is this one of those glitter finishes on a bass boat?

the boat is flake gelcoat and the scratch is not bad, no damage to the hull, just its white and the black is gone. the bottom of the boat is solid black, not flaked

if the scratch is in the glitter area it could be hard to fix..The flake finish is almost impossible to match. on the other hand, if its on the solid black bottom it should be a lot easier... if it is in the glitter maybe you could just cover it with a accent stripe done with tape..in other words, make it look intensional d:)... good luck..
