It was time for a new coat of bottom paint. I tried this stuff from Sharkskin Marine Products. I had never heard of them. They had a non ablative environmentally friendly siliconized epoxy antifouling paint. I thought Id give them a whirl. I seriously have never seen anything like this before. It wasnt soft like other siliconized products Ive read about. This stuff is freakn amazing. Its been 3 months now and not one critter has managed to get a bite, not even slime. Its pretty slick too. They claim it will last 5 years. I guess well see. I also grabbed this stuff called Silent Running. Its a liquid sound proofing material. I strongly reccomend anyone who has a noise or vibration problem to give this product a serious look. You can brush it, roll it or spray it and its water based and voc free. It was well worth the money. Ive got a smooth, quiet little thing goin on. SAWEEET!! If anyone wants the number on Sharkskin Marine give me a hollar and Ill pass it on. And no its not the Sharkskin from Sea Hawk Paints.

IS the silent running safe to use in the marine inviroment? Is it something you would spray on the firewall(?) of a car?

Leezard, It,s about time for me to re-do the bottom on my sailboat. I'd like some info on the shark skin product. I imagine you had to sand the old bottom paint completly off in order to put a harder paint on?

Re: Bottom Paint and Sound Proofing

According to the tech info I recieved on the Silent Running product it has a working temperature of ..i think 350 to 400 degrees. So I would assume it would be great on the firewalls. Call them theyll answer your questions ask for Mark or Brian. I dont know the number off hand but go to www.silentrunning.us. And for flashback, Sharkskin Marine claims the bottom paint BC-10 will last for 5 + years but for that to happen you need to remain all of the existing paint. This product also doesnt need a primer or barrier. I still cant get over this stuff. They will send you a little sample kit that comes with a brochure/tech info and a cured sample on either gel coat or aluminum. They also have a prop coat with a cured sample on Brass. I got a sample of that also. All of their products are VOC free and contain no leaching or ablative crap Whoever this company is, if everything they say is true( so far so good) SEE YA INTERNATIONAL PAINT!!!!! Their number is (480)517-1540 ask for Mark or Jim.Their nice guys and will be more than happy to send sample kits. If your in California they will be at Nelson Beaumont doing a Navy cruiser.
