Ok, so I'm sure this topic has been covered on here more times then not. I am completely redoing my '87 Regal Sebring and I'm stripping the bottom paint off as well. (No, I can't just paint over it. It's well beyond that point) I have seen some people saying on here that if the boat is going to be trailered then there is no need to put actual bottom paint on. I'm using the interlux perfection topside paint. What should I be looking at for bottom primer and bottom paint. thoughts?

Hello m8..sorry for the late reply..

Wondering if your old bottom paint if flaking off or what is the problem ? If its coming off then they may have not prepped it properly. In that case you could remove the paint and just keep it gel coat. Thats what I would do anyway.

Might need some sanding and polishing..

Epoxy Primekote by interlux. Its meant for Perfection and is to be used above waterline. since the boat is trailed it doesnt matter as long as the appropriate primer is used.

Check out Yachtpaints.com. It is the official Interlux site. I used VC Performance on the bottom of my boat but I don't see it in the product list now.

I have to agree... and add a few points: I completely DA'd my boat since somebody before had use what appeared to be house paint. (it was shot / oxidized / and the old color showed where the "new" crap chipped)
Then I used Primecoat followed by Perfection.
About a week of my life I'll never get back but it looks almost new from 10 ft away... until you look at the interior! lol
If you don't plan on leaving your boat in the water for extended periods, the topcoat will be fine.
