Bought a out of business Outboard shop...Help please

Well I bought a closing down Jonny/Rude outboard shop now I have loads of electronic test equipment & omc specialty tools most of I no very little, I would like to post photos and see what the knowledgeable can tell me about ie.. what it does & and how to use it, so my overall question'' is this the place to do this or should i be in another forms section etc. I like the idea of posting here as this is where the OMC gurus reside, any thoughts , concerns, pls lmk what direction I should pursue thanks kb

If you got some original workshop manuals included in the deal, start reading. You may find more answers there. That said, we might be able to help, but not to run your shop.

Contact Bombardier for their schedule of seminars, dealership offers, etc. In essence, what you are asking here is for us to teach you (keeping this short) how to make a profit in a business, and do it for free. Our purpose here is to help individuals with their engine problems if we can, and nothing more. However, I do wish you good luck in your venture.

Im not real sure that he wants to run the shop, just bought some tools and wants to know what they do. Maybe I read it wrong though.

If that's the case, then we'll need to know exactly what equipment/tools he's speaking of.

It may be easier to search the part numbers online at your own pace. Then if you have a specific question, post here. Evinrude has A LOT of special tools and if you were to try to post pics of them all you would be wasting alot of time. Just sayin..

Take some pictures and post them. I am sure someone here will know what they are and how to use them....Yes it may take some time to get reply's.
Most of the tools have part numbers on them. just google for that part number and you should get your answers.
Congrats on your purchase...

Hightrim you read it "EXACTLY" right, I do not wish to have anyone teach me to "run an outboard shop or business" Many of these tools are vintage, and just plain kool'' thought this mite be a chance to learn something about them and make my resto projects easier, I'm also sure from time to time as many old Jonny/rude shops close their doors (as this one did) these tools & test equipment find their way to pawn shops, yard sales, & the like, Thought this might be a good chance for members to get a look at some vintage Stevens instrument co./ Merc-O- tronic, Omc old school etc, It would actually be a bit of my time to take the photo's & post them, As it appeared I ruffled some feathers I guess I won't'' No problem on my end, so sorry mates Ahhhhhhhh its hard to be a simpleton.

Heh. I guess you just hit a couple of people on a bad day. The sort of response you got is way out of character for this board; especially for a couple of the posters involved.

I try to remember that people have a lot of S&$# going on in their lives all the time....sometimes we say and do things that aren't really thought through. I wish you luck in your venture and hope to hear more from you in regards to what treasures you uncover.

Based on the original post (which was not very specific) I see nothing in any of these posts that would be construed as "insensitive". The op wants to post pictures -- so post them. Not a problem. The fact that the OP purchased a shop would imply that he also intends to run it -- at least that's impression I got and apparently I'm not alone in that assumption. It is also stated that he knows little or nothing about the equipment which can easily lead one to think, gosh -- and he wants to run a shop? Suggestions about where to find information on the equipment was given and if pictures are posted I'm certain additional information can be obtaned here. Service manuals from all manufacturers are generally available at your local library and that information is free. The statement about how to run the shop was valid and not insensitive at all. This is a forum (and one of the best if not the best) on a broad spectrum of the marine industry. Participating in a forum, regardless of the topic, requires that you have at least a little bit of a thick skin. If your feelings are hurt rather easily then forum participation is probably not for you. Check out some of the automotive forums sometime. You will quickly see what insensitivity looks like.

Thanks' Zeph Yea I really had no choice but to buy this stuff the shop was part of a hardware store and the Tech who ran it passed away, He was a good friend and a great person, Seakaye12 very good point also, Silvertip I too think this is by far the ABSOLUTE best forum on the net, Sorry I am a very poor writer hard to put things in words sometimes without writing a book, no hurt feelings here
