Here's a pic, for what it's worth:

I paid $500 for it. The hull itself is in pretty good shape, anything that was obvious was patched with epoxy. The transom has no major problems (a few minor cracks on the inside, none on the exterior). They only appear to be stress cracks, not all the way through. I was told that if I tilt the engine all the way up, and put my weight on the engine, the cracks would get bigger as I added weight...but only if they were all the way through. These dont change with weight added, so they are probably minor.
The engine, however, isn't running correctly. It will idle fine, but when you go to get out of a hole and get on a plane, it doesn't have power. It will only go ~10-12mph where it used to go 35. The problem was on-off at first, now it is constant...It is a 65Johnson, btw. I believe a 72 year model.
However, it is probably something fairly easy. I think I did pretty good for the money I spent. Oh yea, the trailer is in good shape as well. I bought it from a trustworthy friend, so that helps.

Who else has a chrysler, and what do you think of it? Did I get a good deal, or did I waste my money?

Thanks!
Shawn

That is a sweet looking boat for it's age. I think you did great, especially since the trailer is in such great shape. Just make sure that you check the compression of the motor. If that is good it is probably a simple fuel or ignition problem. A carb rebuild wouldn't hurt.

thanks, I'm kind of fond of it myself!

as for compression, any idea what it should be?

If compression is low, what would it need? New rings?

Also, what are signs of low compression?

I would assume that it isn't compression, because the problem was sporadic...it would run great, and suddenly fall on its face. The perk back up and fall over again...now it is on it's face all the time, ;) . It sounds electrical to me...

SHawn

My brother purchased a used chryler boat in the early 80's. It had the same hull design but I think it was 19' bow rider. It was pushed with a 135? Chrsyler motor. Well the motor died and the boat just had to go. When we got done with it the floor was soft but hull sound. For a Modified V with Tri hulls up high I remember it being a good riding boat and very stable while drifting. With the motor we did quite a bit of that! Also it tows behind another boat very well! I guess what I'm saying was the boat was great but D____d those Chrysler motors. You'll be happy with that hull design.

While running pull one plug wire at a time and see if it is electrical. But that sound like it is starving for fuel to me. How long has it been since the carbs have been serviced? Decarbed?
